Animal Feed - In the wild, if an animal finds food that doesn’t taste good, it will go have something else. It might get sick once – it might even die if it is severely poisoned – but probably it will learn its lesson and go find a better food source. Unfortunately, domestic animals do not have this option. Often they are unable to tell you that the animal feed they are getting is making them sick. This is why it is so crucial to have the best feed for animals and to pay careful attention to your pets. The wrong animal feeders can make them sick, miserable, and depressed.
I had never really thought about feeding animals before it went wrong. I had a pet ferret which had always been playful and happy, but one day it started getting lethargic. It vomited a couple times, and it was clearly losing weight. I went to the vet who checked everything out. All of its vital signs seemed normal, and she could not figure out what was wrong. She suspected cancer or possibly a parasite. She did not, however, suspect the real problem even once – she had no idea that the animal feed was bad.
The sickness dragged on for months and months. I could barely get her to eat any of her normal food, although she would eat people whenever on occasion. As a matter of fact, I noticed that she was eating more and more people food and less and less animal feed. I should have put that together with her illness, but I didn’t. Only when the animal feed bag ran out did I understand the root cause of all of her unhappiness and bad health.
I was feeding her the food that I had always fed her, but for some reason it was a bad batch. As soon as I got a new animal feed, she got better almost overnight. I didn’t know it, but it was her food that had been making her sick all along. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid making this mistake in the future except to watch more carefully. I looked up animal feeds in every resource that I could find, but none of them reported any bad products. Because animals can’t complain, we never know when the animal food is going bad. The only thing to do is to watch the health of your animal. If it suddenly gets very sick, the animal feed may be to blame.
