On auto pet feeders

Auto Pet Feeders - I like inventions that do things while you aren’t looking. I remember the awe I felt when I saw a self cleaning cat box for the first time. It can’t take the litter to the garbage, but it does take some of the work, and the smell, out of the task. There are many things in this world now that can be set for a task and these make lives easier. One thing I really want to get is one of the auto pet feeders I saw in the store. However, they do scare me a little bit.

I go away a lot, and there are times when I need to find someone to feed my cats while I am gone. This is not always easy, and there were times I had to take them from their home to stay with someone because I couldn’t find a sitter nearby. This is hard on my cats, and one of them has seizures. That means vehicle travel is not recommended. There are times when I have no choice though. I would think that auto pet feeders would be the answer to this, but I do have some reservations about them. What if they stop working while I am away

I have visions of my cats pawing away at the auto pet feeders trying to get food because they stopped working, and I would never know it. It’s not like I can call them on the phone to be sure they are okay. Granted, I would not use these for more than two days at a time without supervision, as someone would need to care for the litter box, but all the same, it would be nice to know that if there were some emergency and I could not be here that they would still be fed. How much can you count on a machine like that though I’m not really sure.

I guess I should look into the auto pet feeders more before I decide if I want to buy them or not. If they run on electricity, they might not be the best idea. Though my electric rarely goes out due to storm activity, it would be my luck that it would the few days I chose to be away from home. Though there are many bad things that would happen if the electric went out, my pets starving would be the worst. They may have a battery back up, and if they do, that might be the best way to go.
