Animal Control - If you have a problem with a wild animal on your property, you can call animal control to come take care of the problem for you. You should only do this when the animal is threatening your family though, and not just for every poor creature that comes near your home. Though you may not be used to seeing a skunk sniffing around your porch, you should realize it will probably move on within a matter of minutes.
However, an animal like a raccoon might have rabies. If they seem to be hanging around and acting funny, you should call animal control right away. They will know how to take care of an animal that might or might not have a problem. You should never try to deal with an animal on your own if you even suspect that rabies might be involved. If you aren’t sure, give animal control a call and let them decide what to do. If someone in your house gets bit, don’t hesitate for a moment. If the animal gets away you won’t know if it has rabies or not.
If you find bats in your home, or even evidence of bats, you should also make sure you call animal control so they can find out what is going on. Most bats are harmless but there is a chance they might be carrying rabies and they should not be in your home. They can carry other diseases as well, and animal control can get them out and tested so you can be sure you have nothing to worry about. If you have heard noises in your attic and you don’t go up there at all, you might consider you have bats up there. It might not be a good idea to open your attic on your own if this is the case. You should have someone do it for you.
If you have to call animal control but have no idea how to get a hold of them, you can call your local operator for information. Your local animal shelter or animal hospital may also have the number for you. Make sure when you call animal control that you can tell them what is going on, why you might need them to come right away, and you should also be able to give them clear directions to your home. They may have instructions for you, so make sure you do exactly as they ask you to do.
