These themes have provided a framework for the following activities:
Conversations about a nation
A series of dialogues using a variety of media, film , video, music etc
to explore the growth of a nation in the past century. These dialogues
have enabled participants to explore what it means to be a citizen of this
nation. Some of these dialogues appear as sound bites throughout this
site.
Writing about a nation
Participants have written about their own experiences of living in this
country. Their stories are featured throughout the site under the
different theme headings. The writing is primarily from people whose first
language is not English, and whose opinions and perspectives are presented
here in their own words.
This site has been constructed in collaboration with students of the
multi media class at Flemington Reading and Writing Program. We have
provided links to other federation sites which our students have found
interesting and stimulating for their research.
Promoting a Nation
This site is being promoted throughout the community and via a number
of events which have been advertised in the local paper. The first
'Fabulous Federation Food Day' was held on the 7th of September
2000. Members of the community were able to sample food from many
different cultures, including the famous Australian lamington. Music,
dance and conversation made the day a great success. Another event is
planned for early 2001 in preparation for our grand finale in April.
