I was born in a family where education
was a very important thing to have. My parents were very strict, so when I
was twelve years old they used to tell me over and over that education was
the key to being a successful person. Especially my Mum who was always
pushing me to study hard and she would always buy me toys when I received
a good score at school.
Secondly I was taught respect for older people and teachers, this is a
very important thing in Vietnamese culture.
My family belongs to the Catholic church, therefore when I was young I
had to attend church every Sunday. But since I have been in Australia I
have become lazy about going to church, I only go when I feel like it.
Also as I have become older I have found some things I think are untrue
in religion, that’s why I have lost interest. I am lucky my mother isn’t
here in Australia otherwise she would be upset with me.
But my Mum and my family are my heroes because they taught me how
important education, honour, love and respect are to bring up a child to
be a good person.
