Thank goodness for Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution.
Without this amazing man we might still be ignorant of the damage we can do to the species in our normal everyday lives.
Repetitive practices are often perpetuated into ensuing generations and one needs to look back no further than The Beatles to find proof of that.
Until the Fab Four came on the scene in the 1960s hair only grew to short back and sides. Now it grows much longer.
In the face of such stunning evidence it is no wonder that Dr Frank Enzyme of the Nepean Institute warns against repetitive actions that might seriously damage future generations.
He points out that if you are in the habit of clipping your dog's toenails you might be doing exactly what the Japanese do to their trees. Bonsai! A bonsai rottweiler might be a dinky little pet but what will it do for the breed's self esteem? Who ever heard of a miniature attack dog?
And you can forget the brouhaha about spanking the kids. Whatever psychological trauma that is supposed to cause doesn't compare with the damage juvenile fashion is doing.
If current trends continue your grandchildren will be born with holes in their eyebrows, lips and tongue ready to insert jewellery—and they'll come into the world with a dazzling mop of green and orange hair.
It's the next evolutionary step.
