Survival

Concerned by the growing number of people who have become lost in the bush in recent years, the Nepean Institute has produced a new pocket-sized survival kit which it claims can keep an adult alive for a week.

It consists of ten small cubes, half of which are concentrated protein containing enough nutrition for one full day's walking.

All that is necessary is to add them to your water bottle.

Of course, the Institute recognises that some people are lost in areas where no water is available, such as the desert, and have solved this problem by adding five cubes of dehydrated water.

They are now looking at the commercial aspects of their discovery and expect to market dehydrated cola for children and dehydrated Staminade for athletes.

If you are totally lost and even a supply of the wonder tablets won't keep you alive till you find your way out, don't despair. The Institute has thought of everything. The kit also includes a deck of playing cards.

When you pass the same rock for the fourth time and realise that your circles are getting you nowhere just pull out the cards and start to play Solitaire. It won't be long before somebody looks over your shoulder and starts telling you which card to move next.

They can then show you the way out.
