| 'Rajyotsava 2006' Karnataka’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Kannada Sangha Queensland Inc (KSQ) proudly celebrated the golden jubilee of the formation of the State of Karnataka in Brisbane on 11th November. Fifty years ago, the Southern States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu were formed on linguistic basis and today these states are leading the economic boom in India. Nearly 100 Kannadigas attended the function. Prof. Sarva Daman Singh, the Honorary Consul of India for QLD and NT was the Chief Guest of the function and highlighted the proud cultural heritage of Karnataka. Mohan Thite, the President of KSQ described how the eight year old KSQ is helping Kannadigas to maintain their distinct identity in a global community, just as Karnataka, and in particular its capital Bengalooru (formerly, Bangalore), today is the electronic powerhouse of the world and is attracting people from all parts of India and the world. The function was graced by visiting dignitaries Mr. Shanth Kumar Desai, Private Secretary to the Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Council and Mr. Sudhakar Shetty, Chairman of JnanaSarovara Intl Residential School, Mysore. The audience was enthralled by the variety entertainment programs presented on the occasion. After the invocation song from Swati and an impressive multi-media visual treat by Gautam who also rendered a Devaranama. The children presented a dance tribute to Lord Ganesh, choreographed by Hema then followed Bharatanatyam from Mamata and Devaranamas from our reputed local Carnatic music artiste, Rajyashree and her students, Ankita and Aishwarya. Children again impressed the gathering with folk dances, ably choreographed by Hema and Bhanu. The Indian dance talent was on display again with a Bharatanatyam dance by Nikhila Kathak dance by Girija and by Sindhu to a foot tapping Bollywood number. Instrumental music by Pratiksha and Aryan (piano), Rajyashree (veena) and Nagaraj Mysore (mandolin) followed. Folk dance by Swati, Roopa, Sangeeta and Chandrika, choreographed and accompanied by Mamata was another highlight of the function. Asha and Ramya regaled the audience with Bhavageethe. Jagdish Acharya rendered excellent Tabala support to the artistes and Vyasa Bhat (VB) kept the audience laughing with his collection of jokes. Anil Rao ably conducted the program as the MC. The evening concluded with sumptuous dinner, Housie and Kolata. Krishna Avadhani, the Secretary of KSQ, thanked the volunteers for their tireless efforts, Brisbane City Council for providing the venue, various Indian organisations for their generous sponsorship and Anant Bellary for the sound system.
