Our current group of modelers have been together for about the last 5 to 6 years, although we have been in existance for around 10 years. Although all members have models of New South Wales prototype, we also have members who model American, British, Canadian and  private railways.

The Layout

The layout is a representation of the Hunter Valley in New South Wales in the 1960s to 1970s, and is a double deck layout with a helix   in one corner and a peninsula running off the helix.

We are using the Lenz DCC system to operate the layout and have found it to be the only way to operate the layout in the manner      for which is was designed. The layout is basically a point to point layout for operational purposes, but does have a continuous loop on the     top  level for testing and running in of Loco’s and wagons.  The track work is peco code 75, all main line points are electrically operated from     a central dispatchers panel. The dispatcher is the only one who is permitted to operate these points and all drivers must obtain permission       to proceed onto the main.

The layout starts at the bottom level peninsula at the Broadmeadow storage sidings, from there it travels around the peninsula past Neath, a private coal mine, and into Branxton, the main station and yard area. It then heads past the Mobil fuel depot and over the bridge past Ravensworth, a heavy industrial siding and over the Paterson bridge and into the Helix.

It comes out of the Helix on the top level at Ray’s Gap, a small rural station, and into Woongarrah station and crossing loop. From here it    travels past Martins Creek produce siding and past Martins Creek into the top peninsula. In the peninsula you pass the Wheat silo siding and ether go into the terminus station of Barrington or travel past Barrington into long flat sidings. From long flat siding you travel past Hebden    mine and the Quarry siding and back to main line and back down the layout in the reverse direction from which you just came to finish up back    in the storage sidings at Broadmeadow.
