Spike Jones is the village smilthy in this hilarious
1942 short
THE BLACKSMITH SONG (1942), a Spike Jones novelty tune,
deals with World War II-era shortages, as a village blacksmith
returns to prosperity, thanks to wartime tire rationing. (Note
that the patriotic and ration-conscious "horse"
accepts only one lump of sugar instead of two.)

"I've been listening for about 10 years I'm sorry
it's taken me this long to write and say how much I enjoy
your programme every week. Having worked in nursing homes
and community centres, sometimes with people who couldn't
string together a reasonable
sentence in conversation anymore, it's amazing to see the
same people have something light up inside them whenever they'd
hear your show. I've moved on from that work now, but happen
to know that many of these places still listen in every Tuesday,
and I want to thank you also then, for not providing just
another radio show, but in a funny way, it's like a community
service, particularly for these older people. May I make a
request" - Jason
