Metalloids are the semiconductors. Si and Ge have four
valence electrons each. Silicon is more widely used as a
semiconductor for electronics,one
reason is, it can be used at much higher temperatures than Germanium.
However at a given temperature,
Germanium will have more free electrons and a higher conductivity
than Si.
