Beaumes de Venise

Beaumes de Venise has a long history, with evidence of occupation of this site dating from well before the arrival of the Romans around 120 BCE.

The village's famous muscat wines were already being served in the Papal court at Avignon in the 14th century.

The ruins of the village's medieval fortifications and chateau can be seen atop the rocky outcrop behind the village.
The focal point of the village, the 16th century church and bell tower is in the Cours Jean Jaurès.

Around the Cours, or town square, is a range of shops and services, including cafés, boulangeries, and a restaurant.

There is also a supermarket, newsagency, pharmacy, tabac, post office,  and a branch of the Credit Agricole bank.

The village also has several shops selling a variety of regional produce including wines, olive oil, tapenade and ceramics.

The tourist office in the Mairie is very helpful for visitors.
Each Tuesday is market day in the Cours Jean-Jauré with a number of traders offering a range of goods and local produce including cheese, charcuterie, meat and fish, linen, and so on.

This is a great opportunity to sample typical French village life. Beaumes de Venise has several restaurants, from wood-fired pizzas to quality restaurants such as the Auberge St Roch. The surrounding area has many fine restaurants. One of our favourites is Les Florets at Gigondas.

This is wine country and there are many vineyards, most open for tasting and cellar door sales.

Domaine de Durban and Domaine de Coyeux are excellent wineries just out of the village.
