Laying Mudbricks.
To lay mudbricks firstly one has to be aware of what type of construction their building shall be. For instance, load bearing or post and beam, further there is also a choice of the house being built on a concrete slab or a footing arrangement. A footing arrangement will encompass a suspended floor, or as is the case with a slab it is usual practice to build a header of house bricks to support the lower section of the mudbrick walls.
When laying mud bricks some people choose to lay their bricks in a similar mixture of earth as their bricks, and without the straw. For quick drying reasons it is also possible to lay your mud bricks in cement.
There are some basic rules when laying bricks. Lay the bricks to a string line on the inside walls. Use wind rows on all upright timbers where mudbricks adjoin, in other words a strip of timber that the mud brick surrounds to stop draughts incase of shrinkage.
A mudbrick wall should be tied together every half dozen courses this can be varied depending on set size of wall and can be achieved by laying a course of brickies wire between the courses. Mudbricks should be laid exactly the same as house bricks the only difference being size and weight.
