Functional Diagram:

The orange lines represent the plumbing route.

The circles with 'S' inside represent solenoids driven by 24VAC solid state relays. Hot liquor comes into the machine at the left, and cold liquor for the Counterflow Chiller (CFC) comes in at the right.

Ball valve acutuators are represented by the squares that surround a lever in the plumbing. The box next to 'MT in' is one of these. The actuators were originally driven by servo motors with fishing line to move the arm. We have in design a more compact version that uses gears driven by the servo to operate the ball valve arm.

The Mixer motor is a 240VAC geared motor driven by a Solid State Relay (SSR).

The black sqaures with a 'T' represent temperature probes. The 'X's in squares represent sensors for level switches, some of which are movable.

The hop additons dropper is driven by a stepper motor that is geared down to provide extra torque. The heating element ratings are given in the dashed rectangular boxes.

Not shown diagrammatically, but inside the Heat Exchanger is a tight coil of copper pipe that provides the surface area for the heat exchanger to operate.
