White Repertoire 1.e4 (2nd Edition) - $49.95
The main focus of Alexander Bangiev’s repertoire CD is the Grand Prix Attack of the Sicilian Defence, featuring a wealth of introduction texts, playing suggestions and annotated games about this sharp attacking weapon. Yet this is only the starting point of the complete White 1.e4-repertoire which offers a playing plan against all common replies by Black. The point: the suggested lines have a lot in common, often transpose and many times lead to similar middlegame positions – effective opening study guaranteed.

Book Reviews
Several publishers are completing coverage of all French variations as we speak. Glenn Flear compares them in his Reviews. But first he takes a good look at Konstantin Sakaev’s new book on the 7.Bc4 Grünfeld and Konikowski/Soszynski’s monograph on the KI Four Pawns Attack.

Flear’s amazement about Chess Stars’s decision to come up with a revamped version of Sakaev’s first Grünfeld tome of just 2 years ago, is replaced by admiration for the Russian GM’s deep analysis in this new 426-page work: ‘It shows how much there is to chess theory these days if you want to get down to the nitty-gritty.’

The Four Pawns Attack is an occasional choice of Flear himself against the King’s Indian. Konikowski/Soszynski’s new book covers mainly 6…c5 lines. The authors’ analysis level doesn’t match that of a Sakaev, but as an insightful reference book this one will please not only club players.

The comparison of Sam Collins’s ‘the French advance’ with Steffen Pedersen’s ‘French: Advance and Other Lines’ reveals some interesting insights. Pedersen’s ‘Tarrasch Variation’ also gets a look-over and is laid side-by-side with Psakhis’s legendary ‘French Defence 3.Nd2’. Just read this review and you will have a good hunch which ‘French Collection’ should be yours to get.

Kasparov's Fighting Chess 1993–1998

By Tibor Károlyi and Nick Aplin

Kasparov's Fighting Chess 1993–1998

Price $39.95

Summary

Garry Kasparov has dominated the world of competitive chess for longer than any world champion. The period 1993–1998 represents one of the richest phases in his career. With the announcement of his retirement, it is only appropriate that the games should now be appreciated in the greatest depth possible. Earlier games are analyzed with computer assistance for the first time – sometimes revealing blemishes in existing analysis – showing the richness of thought and the supreme versatility of the player many consider to be the greatest of all time.

Particular emphasis is placed on evaluations of the openings chosen and statistics on the champion's record against his most fiercely competitive rivals.

The author, International Master Tibor Károlyi, who played against Kasparov as a World Junior, gives an appreciation of an undoubted genius – this is an unashamed celebration of dynamism, diligence, desire and fighting chess.

In his younger years Anand attracted chess world's attention with his excellent combinational solutions, his almost phenomenal quickness of mind and spontaneity.
His today's style is combining brightly both combinational and positional as well as delicate endgame play.
