Slumdog

It is Rehman fever here - radio, tv, taxi drivers - everywhere and everyone is talking about him and slumdog! Myself, I just watched the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tracks are real good. I'm totally rooting for slumdog and rehman. As if I wouldn't, an Indian in a loooong time reaching such great heights. But, all the more as he deserves it, awesome songs, very well made movie! In approx 12 hrs the Oscars start where (another first I think) rehman is performing live. Time to be super patriotic, especially while being in India the fever gets you :) If in aus the build up to the big day whouldn't have been so dramatic - seriously you have to listen to the radio and tv here to believe it! Australia does the same for it's stars, if Nicole or Russell is up for Oscars the papers and everyone is talking about it. But, multiple the aus fever by around 50 times or something to get the indian effect - I surely hope rehman wins it tomorrow - that will be truly amazing with the Golden Globe, Bafta and Oscars in the same year :) Go Rehman...Jai Ho!

Interesting migration figures

Apparently Australia is taking around 200,000 migrants a year. In 2007-08, 58,050 migrants (excluding family members) became PR after they came to work in the 457 work visa. Among them, 8250 were INDIANS!!! And 5120 were filipino and chinese were 3360. So, looks like Indians are leading BIG time. Compare this to figures from 2004-05, Indians:2880, Filipinos:600, Chinese:930. I have been thinking lately that there are more Indians in aus than before - this fact proves I'm correct :) and this is excluding student migrants..mmm.

MAMP

I have been meaning to do this for a while now, when I read about MAMP I had to give it a shot :) Now I have Apache setup with PHP and MySQL and it was piece of cake using MAMP. Apparently apache comes installed in every Mac!! I have a basic HTML page working for me on my mac and I'm super excited about this. Hopefully I can start writing AJAX soon..woo hoo! I'm guessing this post is totally irrelevant to all of the few readers of my blog except my Bro..hehe!

Chennai 600028

I watched this movie (dvd) yesterday called 'Chennai 600028'. It was a very different movie, with new actors, amateur director etc - little refreshing, but sometimes annoying. I liked it more as it was shot in the ground in front of our house in Chennai. Also, it was based around cricket! Few things were hollywood style, but few was total cheri style..haha! Some shots show our apartment building, so, I was trying to get a clip of the movie from youtube, but, found this clip (below)
which is actually a song from the movie with american rap stars in it- haha - very well done! If you go to youtube and search 'Chennai 600028' there are few clips (comedy) from the movie!

But, looking at 'Harry Potter' and 'Fast and Furious' as tamil DVDs was just hilarious...
But, apparently hollywood movies in tamil (or other indian languages) are hugely popular and is a major money making industry!! They run in villages and what not!

maheshram wedding

Well, this pic is not that great, but the one we were all looking straight at the cam and smiling got blurred! And both pics were taken by the helper for the prof camera person at the wedding! Doh!
So, yeshwanth, mahendran and I made it in time for Maheshram's reception (this pic is from the reception). The next day morning was the wedding! We had a blast that night in our hotel room at Kancheepuram but still managed to make it to the wedding at 7am.
