Short 'n' Curly!
Exercises.
Mum and Nanna
by Julanne.
Mum
Fresh ripe tomatoes, cut in quarters, with salt sprinkled over them, a half slice of white bread with butter spread thickly, rice cooked up with tomatoes and onions, laughter, often spontaneous, decently loud, an amused smile at something said, dust motes in a ray of light on a quiet afternoon, salt water and sunshine. Colour - apricot and muted pale green, dark chocolate brown and rich dark green. Comfort, amusement, intelligent interest, indulgence.
Nanna
Smells. An aromatic garden. Pelargoniums, lavender and rosemary. Old smells, dust, mould. Body powder, soap. Urine from the potty. Sudden appearances, disapproval. Quiet, stillness, resting. Ordered resting. Boredom and watchfulness. Uncertainty, insecurity. A white plait around a white head with no beginning and no end. Mysterious plait. Furniture that is now antique - treadle sewing machine, fridge with an ice block in the bottom, cool safes.
